Self Steam
ANGELSPEAKE
By Barbara Mark & Trudy Griswold
“My friend told me I needed some self steam. What could he be
talking about?” The above was in an email we received from a woman
whose first language was not English. Yes, we know she meant
self-esteem, and we understood what she meant. But the way she said
it was charming and it led us to another way of thinking.
Maybe you haven’t had much “self steam” lately either. Life has
gotten blah. You may just want to lay around and do nothing. Maybe
it is the winter doldrums that has you feeling down or depressed.
But if daytime TV has been looking good perhaps it is a time to
listen to your angels speak.
Q: Dear Angels, What should I do? I don’t seem to have much
energy.
The Angels Speak: Dear Ones, What is so bad about resting?
What is so bad about the gift of leisure? What is so bad about
taking some time for yourself? God does not expect you to be a slave
for money or to work many, many hours a day. He only expects you to
do what shows up in your life to do. He helps you figure that out by
sending you an inner knowing that when it is time to rest or play,
you will have the urge to do so.
Q: I was raised with a work ethic that says idle hands aren’t
good.
Angels: In the olden days when it took many people to help
the family survive, such sayings were invented so the little ones
would keep busy. Many such sayings were made by mothers and fathers.
But what does God want you to do?
God says, Thou shalt have no other Gods before Me. Many think that
money is more important than God. Or a house, or a car, or food, or
a computer, or a sport, or children or, or, or. Upon what do you
spend your time? Where do you lavish your energy? What do you think
about most? And are those thoughts filling your mind because you
enjoy the activity that accompanies them or because you cannot not
think about it.
Everything needs rest from it. The fields rest between seasons. The
birds rest between migrations. Kittens curl up in a spot of sunshine
to do nothing. Children take naps and have recess. Old people doze
in their chairs. Why is it you who cannot take time to thank God for
the work he gives you to do? The rest times are just as important as
the work times because that is when you take time to notice what
else you love. The rest times help you replenish, visit with
friends, exercise your body, nap, read, pray.
Q: Are you saying to enjoy the blahs?
Angels: Yes! God does not judge your day by activity. When
there is work to do, you do it willingly. Now it is time to rest and
pray. You have other work coming to you soon. You are preparing for
the new and replenishing from the old. It is good. Appreciate all of
God’s cycles and trust that any place you are is good.
Be not of the clock. Be of the knowing that you are feeling what you
are feeling because in some way it is good for you. Embrace and
follow whatever you are feeling. It is your inner guidance that is
leading you to your best place. Your ambition will return when
ambition is needed. In the meantime, rest for that is what you need
today.
Faith Builder:
Take time for yourself to rest today and praise God for giving it to
you.
